In thecase of the SP45 series, this is a diesel locomotive that was constructed in the mid-1960s by theCegielski plant in Poznan to handle passenger traffic. To keep axle loads as low as possible , thelocomotive ,which reaches speeds ofup to 120 km/h, was equipped with two three-axle bogies . Theserial machines, with engines licensed from FIAT, quickly became a mainstay of passenger and express traffic on PKP's non-electrified lines. Beginning in 1987, the process of replacing steam heating boilers with heating generators began ; the locomotives thus modernized received the SU45 series designation.
Novelty 2022: pKP SU45 variant in the 4th era. The PIKO model in this class impresses with many details, including additional handles and platforms on the roof, reproductions of the rotor blades under the fine fan grilles, free-standing handles on the front and doors, and correct reproduction of the shock absorbers on the finely engraved bogies. The spacious cabins have been faithfully reproduced. The sharply engraved bogies represent all the elements of the original, such as spring elements and axle bearing covers. The accurate paint scheme and prints faithfully reproduce their prototypes. The front, rear and cab LED lights can be switched digitally using a PluX22 decoder. The locomotive is powered by a powerful engine with two precisely balanced flywheels and provides excellent handling characteristics.
