The Challenger 1 had a significant impact on British military history as a basic tank from 1983 to 2001. It underwent its baptism of fire during the 1991 Gulf War, where it distinguished itself by its exceptional gunnery skills. Continuous modernization, especially the additional armor of the Mk. 3 version, made it one of the best protected tanks of its time. A powerful 1,200 hp engine gave the 62-ton colossus a remarkable speed of 56 km/h.
