The German Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tank was the most produced German tank of World War II, produced from 1937 to 1945 and underwent several stages of refinement. Ausfiihrung (Mark) H is one of the more famous and one of the more interesting variants. With the typical protective aprons (Schurzen) mounted on the sides and around the perimeter of the turret, the tank took on a typical appearance, often mistaken by Soviet soldiers for the heavier T-VI "Tiger." The similarity was so great that for a long time in the Soviet army the tank was designated "Tiger" type 4. On the Eastern Front, the Ausf. H made its debut during Operation Citadel (the Battle of "Kursk") and played a key role in later events. Panzer IV became the backbone of German armored divisions. It should be noted that the Panzer IV H was the only Soviet-capable weapon at the time.
