Granville R1 "Gee Bee" - american racing plane built in the 1930s at the Granville Brothers Aircraft factory in America.
Unusual aircraft design with a cockpit in the rear of the fuselage. The fuselage was made of welded steel tubing, the wing was double-beam, all covered with canvas. It was powered by a Pratt & Whitney 9-cylinder star engine with 535 horsepower. The aircraft's span was only 7.6 meters (wing area of 7.2 m2), length was 5.4 meters, and in-flight weight was 1396 kg. As a result of the short fuselage, the lack of landing flaps, and the heavy load on the lifting surface, the aircraft was very difficult and dangerous to fly.
The Gee Bee R-1 in 1932, piloted by Jimi Doolittle, broke the then speed record by reaching a dizzying 473.8 km/h. In the same year the "Thompson Cup" was also won, and in 1933 the "Bendix Cup" was won.
