A set for building a model of the Wasa sailing ship.
The model is produced by the Danish company Billingboats and is reproduced in 1:75 scale (about 98cm long).
"Vasa" belonged to the class of the largest Swedish galleons called Regalskeppet(royal ships). It was built between 1626 and 1628 in Stockholm, commissioned by King Gustav Adolf, under the supervision of Dutch builder Henrik Hybertsson. It was intended to take part in the war against Poland. It was being built when anti-Polish hysteria was reaching its apogee in Sweden. Hence, among other things, the sculptures depicting Polish noblemen placed under the galleon's latrines. The king influenced the design work, wishing, among other things, that the new ship be the largest of the galleons and slender at the same time. The chief designer died a year before the ship was completed. The result was the strongest galleons of the time, but too long and tall for its width, equipped with tall and richly decorated superstructures. The armament consisted of 64 guns placed mainly on two covered gun decks. the 120 tons of stone ballast was insufficient to balance the high masses, including the increased artillery placed on the upper deck. This was already evident during the stability test, but despite its disturbing results, Admiral Klas Fleming allowed the ship to set sail on a trial cruise. The ship became famous mainly for its spectacular sinking and subsequent excavation and transformation into a "museum ship."
The kit includes high-quality laser-cut parts (frames, slats, stringers) needed to make the wooden hull, a set of brass and plastic parts, rigging, canvas for sails, a building plan and instructions. Does not contain glue or varnish.
