The Mercedes-Benz SL I was first shown in February 1954 at the International Motor Sport showroom in New York. The car participated in races at Nuremberg, Le Mans and Carrera Panamericana Mexico. A distinctive feature of the body was the upward-opening doors, which generated a lot of interest for the time.
