TheBoeing 787 Dreamliner is a medium-sized, wide-body, long-range American-made passenger aircraft.
The first flight was scheduled for August 7, 2007 deliberately choosing this date (it was to be associated with the number 787). Unfortunately, the flight was postponed to November-December 2007, and then to the end of the first quarter of 2008. The reasons for the delays were incompatibilities of some subcontractor-manufactured parts, problems with strength testing and the still large weight of the wing components. After fixing the defects and after many modifications, the first flight took place on December 15, 2009 from Everett Airport at 10:25 am local time. An experienced crew, captains Mike Carricer and Randy Neiville, sat at the controls, and the flight was scheduled to last 5.5 hours. Due to bad weather conditions (heavy rainfall), the flight was shortened to 3 hours.
On December 6-8, 2011, the Dreamliner with the number ZA006 set 2 new records in its class: a flight of 19,835 kilometers and a speed record for flying around the globe in 42 hours and 27 minutes.
Boeing 787 Dreamliners have also been flying for Polish airline LOT since December 2012 (the first unit was delivered on November 15, 2012), and the first commercial flight took off on December 14, 2012 from Chopin Airport to Prague in the Czech Republic.
