TheIl-86 is the first and most important wide-body medium-range passenger aircraft designed in Ilyushin's office. Design work began in the early 1970s, and the first flight of the prototype took place on December 22, 1976. Serial production lasted from 1980 to 1993 and 106 units were produced, and the aircraft gained a reputation in the USSR as a safe and reliable machine. It is interesting to note that the Polish aviation industry was also involved in the production of the Il. In the 1980s PZL produced almost half of the components for this airframe, including entire wings.
