The Volga is an upper-middle-class passenger car produced by the Soviet GAZ plant in Nizhny Novgorod.
In 1962, work began on the design of the Volga M24 model (successor to the M21) with the idea of using a number of former engine versions and a new design of a 6-cylinder inline and 8-cylinder V-engine with automatic transmission. However, the idea of fitting a 6-cylinder engine and automatic transmission was quickly abandoned. It was decided to go with R4 2.5-liter and V8 5.5-liter engines. Unfortunately, with the V8 engine, the handling characteristics were unsatisfactory (too much weight on the front axle) so a 200 kg iron plate was mounted in the trunk.
Government car, for transporting dignitaries, directors, for the secret service, and also a car that caused fear among children ("black Volga kidnaps children").
