Volkswagen Golf - a German compact class passenger car produced from 1974 to the present day.
In the late 1960s, the management of Volkswagen AG decided to build a small front-drive compact car, and series production began in March 1974 at the Wolfsburg car factory.
The Volkswagen Golf IV was first unveiled in 1997 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and a year later it took second place behind the Alfa Romeo 156 in the poll for European Car of the Year.
The Golf IV was produced in Europe from 1997 to 2006, and in Brazil until 2010. In June 1999, the nineteen millionth ! rolled off the line.
