USS Nimitz (CVN-68), an American nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, is the second nuclear-powered aircraft carrier after USS Enterprise. It was launched on May 13, 1972, and has been in service with the US Navy since 1975. The construction cost was more than $2 billion (the exact amount is not known). The ship is 333 meters long, 40.8 meters wide, and has a displacement of 104,000 tons. Propulsion is provided by 2 nuclear reactors with 280,000 horsepower generating steam for 2 steam turbines driving 4 propellers, which allow the ship to reach a speed of 30 knots. The deck can accommodate 90 aircraft, and the aircraft carrier's crew numbers 3,300.
