Construction of the cruiser SMS Derfflinger began on March 30, 1912 at the shipyard of the Blohm & Voss concern in Hamburg, and the launch was scheduled for June 14, 1913 which, for technical reasons, did not take place. She was finally launched on July 12, 1913.
Defflinger was a German cruiser of the line (classified in Germany as a Großer Kreuzer grand cruiser) and commissioned just before the outbreak of WWI. After the war ended, she was sunk by her own crew on August 21, 1919.
