USS ENTERPRISE CV-6 is an American aircraft carrier of the Yorktown type, the most decorated ship of World War II, which played a key role in the US victory in the Pacific War from 1941 to 1945.
Yorktown Type 3 US aircraft carriers of the Bicentennial and Interwar and World War II periods included USS "Yorktown" (CV-5), USS "Enterprise" (CV-6) and USS "Hornet" (CV-8).
USS ENTERPRISE CV-6 was launched on October 3, 1936 at a shipyard in Newport News, Virginia, and entered service with the United States Navy on May 12, 1938. It was the only American aircraft carrier that, with interruptions for necessary overhauls, conducted combat operations from the first to the last day of the Pacific War and became the only Yorktown unit to survive the war.
