The MI-35M is a deeply modernized version of the Russian-made Mi-24W helicopter.
The main purpose of the modernization was to improve flight characteristics by increasing the engines' power to the helicopter's weight, using avionics for day and night flight, and employing new armaments.
The prototype was flown on March 3, 1999, but the Russian authorities nevertheless decided to upgrade the Mi-24 to the Mi-24PN model. Therefore, it was decided to sell the Mi-35M abroad to countries such as Venezuela, Brazil, Serbia, Iraq and Azerbaijan, among others.
