TheAH-64 Apache is a basic type of tandem assault helicopter designed to support ground troops and combat armored weapons.
In 1972, the U.S. Army issued a tender for an attack helicopter (Advanced Attack Helicopter). The first flight of the prototype took place on September 30, 1975, but the contract for production was not signed until 1982, and the first serial unit was produced a year later.
There are 2 main models of the AH-64A and AH-64D in US service (B and C versions were also produced, but never entered service).
The helicopter was designed as a very rugged machine capable of front-line operations, the cabin is armored and the crew sits in what is known as a kevlar tub. The AH-64, thanks to its navigation apparatus and safety systems, can fly during the day, at night and in complete lack of visibility.
Its baptism of fire took place in 1989 in Panama during Operation Just Cause, it scored victories during the First Gulf War in 1991, as well as in Iraq destroying part of the armored forces.
