The aircraft was designed in 1930 in a twin-bladed configuration designated DH-60T Tiger Moth. The prototype with a 120hp de Havilland Gipsy III in-line engine was flown on October 26, 1931. The same year proceeded to the construction of the next serial version designated DH-82 Mk II Tiger Moth, production of both versions was completed in 1944, with a total of 8811 built.
The de Havilland Tiger Moth aircraft were "on duty" in RAF flight schools in 1934, and from 1935 they also "served" in civilian schools, where they were used until the mid-1950s.
