The F-8 Crusader is an American airborne fighter aircraft developed by Chance Vought.
The aircraft, designated XF8U-1, was flown on March 25, 1955 and exceeded the speed of sound in its very first flight, making it the first supersonic airborne fighter. A second prototype was flown on June 12 of the same year and given the name Crusader.
It was put into series production in 1957, and the "service" version of the RF-8 Crusader as a reconnaissance aircraft ended in France in 1999 ! A total of 1261 copies were produced.
