F-15 Eagle - a twin-engine tactical fighter aircraft of American manufacture designed by the McDonnell Douglas Company (now part of the Boeing plant).
In 1969, the U.S. Air Force selected Mc Donnel's design as an "air superiority fighter" (an aircraft for taking control of enemy airspace by establishing tactical dominance). The aircraft first flew in July 1972, and began "service" with the USAF in 1976. It is one of today's most successful fighters in air combat, with more than 100 victories to its credit (the Israeli Air Force has scored the most kills).
The F-15J is an all-weather version of the single-seat air superiority fighter for Japan's Air Self-Defense Force 139, built under license in Japan by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries from 1981 to 1997, and two examples built in ST. Louis.
