In 1936, at the Taylor Aircraft Plant in America, Walter Jamonueau developed an improved version of the E-2 aircraft, which launched the Piper Cub family of aircraft. In 1937, the company's name was changed to Piper Aircraft and production was moved to a new plant in Lock Haven, where the Piper J-2 Cub was produced. The J-3 version was developed in 1938 and became the basic version of this aircraft. Popularity and increased production grew in 1939, when the U.S. government sponsored a war pilot training program. In 1941, the aircraft was introduced into the US Army Corps aviation and served there for many years in the L-4 version. A total of 34849 were produced, including 1576 in the basic version, 20296 in the J-3 version, 2761 in the Coupe/Cruiser version and 10216 in the Super Cub version.
To this day, this magnificent machine, a legend of American aviation, can still be observed in the sky.
