In many ways, the famous Junkers Ju-87 Sturzkampfflugzeug dive bomber, better known by its nickname Stuka, was a symbol of German air power during World War II. Developed by Hermann Pohlmann in 1935, this deadly attack aircraft made its debut in the ranks of the Luftwaffe Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War. With its distinctive inverted gull wings, fixed landing gear and wing-mounted Jericho Trumpet sirens, the mere sight of the Stuka instilled fear in Germany's enemies. The Stuka was designed to drop its payload when it reached the bottom of a near-vertical dive, which was controlled automatically by the aircraft's mechanical systems. This allowed it to hit ground targets with remarkable accuracy. It was also equipped with a pair of 7.92mm caliber machine guns, which it could use for gunfire. Although the Ju-87 stood out for its innovative design, being robust, reliable and highly effective against ground targets, it was highly vulnerable to fighter attacks due to its poor maneuverability, low speed and lack of defensive armament. During the war with the Soviets, when Germany lost its air superiority, the Ju-87 proved too vulnerable to Soviet fighter attacks and was gradually replaced by the Focke-Wulf Fw 190.Contents: 2 unpainted aircraft 1 plain stand - 1 unit card 1 decal sheet
