Assemble Me. Reach for the skies
The Wright brothers were right. When these talented bicycle mechanics set about building the world's first engine-powered heavier-than-air airplane, they needed wings that would provide sufficient lifting power, yet be light and strong. They decided on a biplane design, found in early hang gliders. Biplanes have two fixed wings, one above the other, connected by struts, allowing for a lighter wing design. World War I aviators flew biplanes, and although the Red Baron is known for his iconic crimson triplane, most of his successful combat career was spent on biplanes. Advances in aviation technology and materials made biplanes obsolete by the late 1930s, but they remain a fixture at air shows and a fan favorite to this day.
Ugears is known for producing beautiful DIY wooden models that feature steampunk styling. Naturally, when we decided to add a model airplane to our collection of "easy" models for young modelers, we couldn't resist the beauty and historical significance of the biplane. The Ugears Avionette model is both a toy and an attractive decorative piece that can be placed on a shelf. We opted for an open design, so the fuselage of the biplane is light and transparent, revealing the interior of the model. Machines should not be mysteries! We want to stimulate the natural curiosity of our young constructors and help them learn about engines and simple mechanics.
Launching the Avionette
The wooden Avionette model has a rotating propeller and is powered by a rubber band motor. Just pull the model back to spin it, then let go and watch it fly! This model will appeal to anyone who loves model airplanes or is interested in aviation. It joins the Aviator (with interchangeable airplane and helicopter parts) and Airplane Launcher models in the Ugears family of flying models. You don't need glue. Just squeeze the parts out of the strip and join them together. When assembling the model aircraft, remember to lightly sand and wax the moving parts. This will make them run smoothly.
To whom to buy an avionette ?
Avionette is the perfect starter model and introduction to the fascinating world of Ugears puzzles. Your child, while building these wonderful, engaging toys, will also build his knowledge and mechanical skills.
