The sensational combination of nature and mechanics in the stunning automaton machines inspired Ugears designers to create their own series of unique mechanisms. One of them is the "Butterfly" 3D model.
The butterfly is not a static vitrine model, but a real kinetic sculpture that mimics the flight of a butterfly. Each part of the model is designed to perform its unique function in the mechanism during assembly. The model is powered by a rubber motor and operates without external power sources or batteries.
As with all Ugears models, no glue, additional tools or equipment are used during assembly of the Butterfly. The model is assembled from ready-made parts cut by laser method from plywood made from natural wood materials. When pressed, the ready-to-assemble parts can be easily removed from the board.
How it works
Assembly consists of several steps: first, the details are combined into small parts, which are assembled into blocks, which in turn shape the finished functioning model. The assembly process is illustrated in step-by-step instructions in Polish.
The Butterfly's openwork wings are made of kraft cardboard. In the kit with the model you will find two pairs of wings: colored and light beige, which you can paint as you wish. The lower wings change their angle as they fly, making the model's movements more realistic. The butterfly's two front pairs of paws move while the mechanism operates, and the rear pair serves as a starting lever and engine blocker.
In addition to the main element, i.e. the Butterfly, the model also includes a platform, made in the shape of a flower. The butterfly above the flower is held and cushioned by a special mast, which springs as the butterfly flies. Thanks to this combination - the movement of the wings and the springing mast - the butterfly's flight looks very natural, resembling the dance over the flower of an insect collecting nectar.
