New for Piko 2026: The TKt48 series armored locomotives of the Polish State Railways (PKP) played an important role in passenger and freight traffic on the mountain routes of the Karkonosze and High Tatras in the 1950s and 1980s. These locomotives were built between 1950 and 1957 at the Fablok and Cegielski factories, with 191 units delivered to PKP. Thanks to its high traction mass, this series became a truly versatile mountain locomotive, which, with a maximum speed of 80 km/h in both directions, revolutionized the operation of branch lines. Due to a decline in traffic and the closure of many branch lines, the locomotives lost their operational area and were taken out of service and scrapped by 1989. Fortunately, a dozen or so locomotives have been preserved and can still be admired as museum and historic exhibits.
