EN57 - a normal-gauge, three-carriage, low-period electric multiple unit produced from 1962 to 1993 at the Pafawag plant in Wroclaw.
The idea of building a vehicle capable of serving both high and low platforms originated in the early 1950s.
The design work lasted from 1959 to 1961, the documentation of the new unit was carried out by the Central Construction Bureau of the Railway Rolling Stock Industry Poznan, and operational tests of the prototype began as early as December 1961.
