SU45 diesel locomotive PKP VI
Original:
The SP45 series refers to a diesel locomotive that was constructed in the mid-1960s by the Cegielski plant in Poznan to handle passenger traffic. To keep axle loads as low as possible, the locomotive, which reached speeds of up to 120 km/h, was equipped with two three-axle bogies. Series machines,
with FIAT-licensed engines, quickly became a mainstay of passenger and high-speed traffic on non-electrified PKP lines. Since 1987, the process of replacing steam heating boilers with heating generators began;
the locomotives modernized in this way received the SU45 series designation.
