PKP SU46 diesel locomotive

Original:
After positive experience with the operation of domestically produced SP45 series locomotives, the Polish State Railways decided to order a more powerful machine that could be directed to service qualified passenger traffic. The designers of the locomotive decided to use the engine already proven in the SP45
under license from FIAT, however, they increased its power to 2250 hp. This turned out to be a very good decision, as the much more powerful engine consumed little more fuel than its predecessor. Other innovations in the design were the use of an alternator for electric train heating, as well as a new, easier-to-install form of the
of the driver's cab and characterized by grooved walls of the locomotive's self-supporting body.
After diagnosing and removing minor "childhood diseases" in the SU46-001 and SU46-002 prototypes, Cegielski plants in Poznan delivered a further 50 locomotives in 1976-1977, which met PKP's expectations to such an extent that consideration was given to ordering another 267 machines with a maximum speed of 120 km/h and an engine power of
1654 kW engine. For various reasons this did not materialize, and in 1985 only 2 locomotives were produced: SU46-053 and 054. In 2012, more than 30 machines of the SU46 series were still performing their hard daily service.

News 2023: Printed version of SU46 locomotive of PKP project in era V and VI. The PIKO model of the SU46 locomotive features a successful mold design and consistent execution of all the important details of the prototype. The PIKO SU46 has matching lamps, digitally switchable driver's cab and engine room lighting, and front and rear lights that operate according to the direction of travel using LEDs. The detailed engine room equipment is designed as an attraction with a clear view for a more realistic effect. With a heavy die-cast zinc frame, two traction tires and a five-speed motor with two flywheels, excellent handling characteristics and high tractive power were achieved. An uncomplicated upgrade with sound and the largest possible speaker is prepared on a clear circuit board with PluX22 interface. The SU46 model comes with attachable dummy brake lines.
