R.M.S. Titanic - British transatlantic liner of the Olympic type, owned by the White Star Line ship company. During its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York via Cherbourg and Queenstown, it collided with an iceberg on April 14, 1912 and sank. Its disaster prompted a revision of maritime safety laws and rules.
