The 45 mm cannon was used by Soviet troops on almost all fronts and took part in all major battles on the Eastern Front, from the first battles in the summer of 1941 to the storming of Berlin in 1945. By 1941, the cannon was obsolete and not very effective against the armor of newer German tanks. However, it remained the main Soviet gun until 1943, when the Soviet artillery was supplemented by a sufficient number of more powerful guns.
