At the beginning of World War II, the US Army had light and lightly armed vehicles: "reconnaissance cars" for advanced reconnaissance operations. The M-8 Greyhoud armored car, developed during the war and featuring better protection and heavier armament, marked a turning point for the US Army. The vehicle guaranteed greater operational flexibility and could be used more effectively to support ground troops thanks to its 37mm cal. cannon mounted in the turret. First used on the Italian front, from Montecassino to Anzio, it then took part in D-Day operations in June 1944. Although the terrain of Normandy proved difficult and demanding in the initial phase of operations, the M-8 was particularly valued for its speed of movement and versatility of use. It was used not only by the US Army, but also by numerous Allied countries.
